Fabulous Foods Containing Fiber

Eating a healthy and balanced diet is important if you want to keep yourself away from diseases or other health problems in the long run. There are lots of components in a balanced diet, which also include fiber. It is considered immensely important because it can prevent diabetes, heart disease, some type of cancers, weight gain and also boost overall digestive health. The good news is that you can increase your fiber intake by simply incorporating fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. You can also pass refined grains and opt for whole grains instead. Chef Ido Fishman suggests if you are looking for some other sources of fiber, here are some fabulous foods you can put on your shopping list:

Raisin Bran

If it is your habit to begin your day with a bowl of cereal, then you should check the label and see how much fiber you are getting in every serving. In case it isn’t more than a few grams, you should give some thought to getting raisin bran. There are more than 7 grams of fiber in one cup and you can find several brands available.

Chickpeas

Also known as garbanzo beans, there are about 6-grams of fiber in one-half cup of chickpeas and they are also rich in potassium, protein, magnesium and iron. There are a couple of ways you can eat them. First, you can purchase dry chickpeas and put them in water for 12 hours or canned chickpeas can be bought and used right away. They are used in a number of Indian and Spanish dishes and are also found in the hummus. You can also find canned chickpeas; learn by Ido Fishman how to find canned foods.

Pears

It is always good to have some fresh fruit in the house you can snack on. Pears are an excellent option because they are quite low in calories and good sources of minerals and vitamins. But, the best part is that they are just wonderful sources of fiber. There are about 8 grams of fiber in one cup of pear slices. They can also be stored easily and don’t need to be refrigerated as long as they have their peel.

Black Beans

Traditionally found in Latin dishes, black beans have become popular in various cultures. They have a very high quantity of fiber as there are 15 grams in just one cup. They are also laden with minerals, protein and B-vitamins. You can get canned black beans and use them directly or purchase them and soak in water. They can be used as an ingredient in a dish or soup or can also be served as a side dish.

Almonds

Finding almonds in a grocery store is pretty easy. You can just eat a handful when you feel the urge for a snack or add them to your yogurt. You can easily use them on top of a salad or in a variety of dishes. There are 4 grams of fiber in just one ounce of almonds and they also contain plenty of monounsaturated fats just like olive oil.

When you eat plenty of fiber daily, you will stay healthy and happy.
